ACC 50th Anniversary Celebrations:

"On Stage with Jin Xing"

October 26, 2014

ACC Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA) co-presents a special finale for ACC's 50th anniversary year in Hong Kong - the Hong Kong debut of Chinese modern dance pioneer, Jin Xing. Jin Xing is the first Chinese dancer awarded with a fellowship from the ACC Hong Kong office in 1988, and made her first trip to the U.S. on her ACC program during which she was able to participate in the American Dance Festival and train with masters of modern dance including Martha Graham and Merce Cunningham.

Now a veritable star in the worlds of dance, film, and television, Jin Xing and her dance company - Jin Xing Dance Theatre: the first private modern dance company in China - have become renowned in Mainland China as well as across Europe, touring widely and winning acclaim over the past 14 years.

In honor of ACC's milestone birthday, Jin Xing will be making her first appearance on stage in Hong Kong and will perform a solo dance creation: "The Closest - The Furthest" that premiered in June 2006 at “Under the Skin” – 4th International Festival of Contemporary Dance of the Biennale di Venezia. This work tells the story of the guqin's thousand years of history as an instrument that linked mortal human beings, heavenly forces, and earth-grounded strength. Just as ancient emperors used the instrument's voice, Jin Xing uses her body language to dance the implicit connection between earth and sky.
