Announcement of Josephine Wai as Director, Hong Kong

Asian Cultural Council (ACC) announced the appointment of Josephine Wai as Director, Hong Kong effective 2nd January 2013.
Ms. Wai has over 15 years of experience in arts administration and management, and has been working closely with artists and arts groups in Hong Kong for many years. From 1999 to 2011, she was the Director, Arts Support of the Hong Kong Arts Development Council (HKADC). At HKADC, she played a key role in the development of arts support policies and grant systems which have established the Council as an important local resource for artists and arts groups in obtaining funding support. Her experience includes working for non-profit organizations in Hong Kong and overseeing fund-raising and membership liaison activities.
Miho Walsh, Executive Director of ACC, said:
“On behalf of the Chairman, Wendy O’Neill and all my colleagues both in New York and in ACC’s regional offices, I am delighted to welcome Josephine to ACC. Her extensive experience and passion for the arts ensures that the excellent work done by Michelle Vosper who retires after 26 years with ACC in Hong Kong will be both continued and extended.”
Hans Michael Jebsen, Vice Chairman of the ACC Board of Trustees and Chairman of the ACC Hong Kong Friends’ Committee added:
“This is an exciting appointment for all of us in Hong Kong. Since ACC was established in Hong Kong, it has provided some 500 opportunities for cultural exchange to many in the arts community, both in Hong Kong and Mainland China. Josephine will help create the next chapter of ACC in Hong Kong. With her already extensive networks in the arts community, she is well-placed to assist in broadening the profile of ACC, both among potential future fellows as well as in the wider community.”

The vision of the Asian Cultural Council is to support transformative cultural exchange by awarding fellowships to artists, scholars, and arts and humanities professionals, as well as organizations and educational institutions from the United States and Asia for research, study, and creative work in other countries within Asia or in the United States. To achieve this goal, the ACC develops programs specifically tailored to the needs and interests of each of its fellowship recipients and fosters ongoing dialogue between and among its grantees and artists, scholars, and specialists, through a robust network of contacts across disciplines and across the globe. The ACC supports its efforts by seeking funding from individuals, foundations, and corporations with an interest in and dedication to strengthening ties between the United States and the countries of Asia. Since its creation in 1963 by John D. Rockefeller 3rd, ACC has provided fellowships to nearly 6,000 individuals and organizations.
About ACC Hong Kong
Begun in 1986, ACC Hong Kong has played a unique role in the local arts community. Many of its fellows have subsequently become leaders in their field, such as Wucius Wong, Tang Shu Wing, Hon Chi Fun, Mui Cheuk Yin and Benny Chia to name a few.
